Vladimir Putin has signed the federal law «About ratification of the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention (Revised)», the press-service of the President of the Russian Federation informs on Monday. The law has been carried by the State Duma on November, 3rd and approved by the Council of Federation on November, 15th.

Convention 185 has been carried at 91st session of General conference of the International Labour Organization in Geneva on June, 19th, 2003. The convention covers introduction of the seafarers’ identity documents (SID) containing the biometric information of its owner, creation of the coordination center which should work in a round-the-clock mode. The coordination center should confirm authenticity of identification cards of seamen by inquiries of immigration authorities of the foreign states. This center also should operate an electronic database of the issued SID.

GazIntech is engaged in development of the Seafarer’s Identity Documents Processing, Issuance and Control System under the project of creation of the state system of manufacturing, registration and control of passport and visa documents of new generation which head executor is Federal State Unitary Enterprise Scientific and Research Institute «Voskhod». The coordination center and issuing offices are the parts of this System.
