The Automated System for Passport Control "Sapsan" (ASPC "Sapsan") developed by GazIntech and several R&D enterprises, has been implemented and commissioned at Terminal C of Sheremetyevo International Airport. Sheremetyevo International Airport has become the first Russian airport supporting biometric passport control. The system started along with the Terminal C recommissioning on July 23, 2021.

ASPC "Sapsan" is a high-tech software and hardware complex based on Russian software and components. It is designed to ensure fully automatic passport control of passengers crossing the state border of the Russian Federation, including verification of the passport’s biometric information with biometric data of its holder. The system is simple and intuitive, while it fully meets all the requirements of the Border Service of the Russian Federation.

At the moment, 20 ASPC "Sapsan" kiosks are installed in Terminal C, with Departure and Arrival terminals having 10 kiosks each. They can be used by the citizens of the Russian Federation aged 18 and older with foreign biometric passports of the 75th series and above.

ASPC "Sapsan" resulted from hard work of GazIntech specialists and was supported by Sheremetyevo International Airport, the Border Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation, and many other services and R&D enterprises. Due to the highest security requirements imposed on border crossings points of the Russian Federation, the design and testing periods of the system’s unique control functions took two years. Over 12,000 passengers used the system during its trial operation at Terminal E of Sheremetyevo International Airport. At the last stage, the system algorithms were improved with the focus on security requirements and a user-friendly interface.

GazIntech believes that the further development of digital technologies at transport facilities, including the implementation of automated systems, will increase security, reducing the "human factor" in routine operations and saving resources for extraordinary cases that require human intervention, optimize and speed up the processing of passenger traffic, as well as improve satisfaction and loyalty of passengers.
